St Martin Holidays from the Caribbean Specialists.

St Martin Holidays

St Martin (French: Saint-Martin / Dutch: Sint Maarten) is an island in the northeast Caribbean, approximately 190 miles east of Puerto Rico. The 87 square kilometres island is divided roughly 60/40 between France and The Netherlands. The main cities are Philipsburg (Dutch side) and Marigot (French side). Both sides are hilly with large mountain peaks.

St. Martin is a dry island with scrubby hills and some areas of rich vegetation. The East coast or “windward coast” is swept by the gentle warmth of the trade winds that meet the mountains, condense and turn into warm showers, resulting in a windward coast that is lush and green. On the other hand, along the west or “leeward” coast, where showers are less common the vegetation here is dry. Scrubs and cactus govern the landscape.

On St. Martin the climate is ideal all year round. The average yearly temperature is 27°C, peaking at around 32°F. Temperatures rarely dip below 20°C. The temperature on St. Martin is stable and profits from the trade winds. There is no rainy season as such and showers that do occur are rather short. Despite the stable temperature there are 2 seasons, the dry season from December to April, and the wintering season from May to November. Although there is seasonal variation in the rains on St. Martin, the variation between the dry and the rainy seasons is less marked. The rainy season is usually linked with the hurricane season, which runs from June to December.

At St. Martins it is mostly about the beaches and the water-sports. St. Martin has something for everyone. Whether you’re here for the swimming, water-sports or simply to relax in the sun.
